Success Stories, Women's Hair Loss

Today I will like to discuss the steps I took to getting my hair back. Growing up was hard at times being I was born with very fine thin hair. As a young girl struggling with hair loss, it was very devastating and I didn’t feel beautiful. Every time I went out, I would struggle with styling my hair in a way that wasn’t noticeable to others and sometimes not even wanting to go anywhere at all because of what others may say.

Going swimming was not an option for me, we all know when your hair is wet it looks thinner. Windy days were my worst enemy…hairspray and hats were my best friend. Seeing women with hair having it colored, cut and styled was something I could never do because I just didn’t have the density. I would love to style my family and friend’s hair because I could never do my own. That is when I decided to go to beauty school, thinking maybe I can learn more about hair; just maybe they would be able to give me ideas for my hair. Getting my cosmetology license and working was fun, but I still had my thin hair. Having to work and also go for singing auditions, I was ready for a change so I started to investigate. Once I found Hair Club® I thought there is no way they can help me, my hair is just way to thin. When they said yes we can give you your dream hair, I cried with excitement! I feel it within my heart that I was meant to be a hairstylist, to go to Hair Club®, to get my dream hair and help work with other women who struggle or who are struggling with hair loss. I honestly have never been happier.

One of my clients who came in with a condition called “Alopecia Areata”. Although not fully understood by science, what doctors have discovered is that the white blood cells attack the hair follicle causing all the hair in a certain area to fall out. She was interested in trying our EXT Treatments and within 4 months of the treatment she could already see great results. This was a special moment for her to see her hair slowing coming back!

If you are struggling with hair loss are you asking yourself “Is it common for women to have hair loss“? Yes, hair loss is very common for women than most people realize. Over 30 million women and suffering from some form of hair loss.

The most common causes of hair loss that women experience are: Hormonal Imbalances – occur during menopause, stress, depression, postpartum. Medications – Medications for heart conditions, depression, birth control or blood pressure. Tight Hair Braiding – Pulling hair extremely tight can prevent your hair from growing properly. Poor Nutrition – Not getting sufficient nutrition can lead to loss of hair. Genetics or Aging – If your family has a history of hair loss, you may be more likely to have hair loss as well. Hair loss also increases with age. Androgenetic Alopecia- caused by high androgen birth control pills, hormones, pregnancy, menopause or ovarian cysts. Hair Pulling- Compulsive hair pulling can also be a disorder such as Trichotillomania that results in hair loss.

Hairstyles to avoid that can produce significant hair loss:

  • Tight ponytails
  • Braiding tightly
  • Corn-rows
  • Plaits
  • Dreadlocks

Tip: Minimize the use of hair dryers, hot curlers, chemical treatments, straighteners and flat irons. Avoid constant heating and drying rituals. The heat will weaken hair proteins that will cause brittleness and fragility.

Thank you and I hope you all have a great week!
