Healthy Hair, Women's Hair Loss

When it comes to having thin hair sometimes trying to style it can be a definite challenge, but I can help you!

Here are a few tips and tricks to make your hair look fuller and healthier at the same time. Color, cutting and putting products in your hair has nothing to do with hair loss… not even using a blow dryer, flat iron or curling iron can cause hair loss, however, if used on a constant basis this can damage your hair.

PRODUCTS:  You need to add products to your hair to help give it “body” and “volume”; your hair will not do it on its own. Using great products is very important, but don’t be afraid to add moose, hairsprays, gels and root lifters. Look for these products and on the label it should specify that it increases volume or adds body. You would want to apply these products when your hair is damp, focusing on the roots of your hair and take an extra moment to message the product in. After you have applied your choice of product use a blow dryer with heat, the heat will help add extra volume.  Try blow-drying with your head upside down, once you bring your head up you will have tons of body. Using a curling iron also gives you volume and style, while a flat iron gives you a straighter look. Don’t forget to top off your look with a finishing spray to hold it in place.

Also, if you would like to add more volume, you can take sections of your hair with a small toothed comb and back comb the root to give yourself some lift, make sure to do this when your hair is completely dry. If your hair does not tease well adding some highlights will make it easier. When it comes to you having thin hair coloring your hair a lighter color will give the illusion you have more hair. Reason for this is that if you have very thin hair, having lighter hair will make it less noticeable when your hair grows out vs. having darker hair. Adding highlights and low-lights help with the illusion of thicker and fuller hair. Also, cutting it shorter will add more body also giving the illusion you have more hair.

Healthy hair is very important, while using styling products, hot tools and color does not cause hair loss, it can dry out the hair. By using the right products to cleanse your hair properly and condition it every day, this can help with your thinning hair. A good cleanser will make sure all the product are cleansed out and conditioners protect from environmental damages, leave in conditioners are also important they protect your hair from environment and heat.

I also suggest using hair masks with vitamins and nutrients at least once a week is very important to improve your hair, but I would advise not to do it more than once a week. Hair masks help lock in vitamins since the moisturizer of a hair mask is much higher than that of a conditioner; this will give your hair some extra attention it needs.

Hairstyles to avoid that can produce significant hair loss:

  • Tight ponytails
  • Braiding tightly
  • Corn-rows
  • Plaits
  • Dreadlocks

Tip: Minimize the constant use of hair dryers, hot curlers, chemical treatments, straighteners and flat irons. Avoid constant heating and drying rituals. The heat will weaken hair proteins that will cause brittleness and fragility if used a lot.
